The Artist, El Esteban, is a bit of an unusual case in the art world.
The Artist, El Esteban, is a bit of an unusual case in the art world. El Esteban aka Steve Jarvis is a late bloomer as an artist.
Steve was a self-employed businessman for 35 years with no artistic bent whatsoever. The artistic talent in the family resided in his daughter who received a college scholarship in art. Her “art gene” was a gift from her mother and her grandmother.
Steve grew up as an empiricist studying science and math throughout high school and college. After college graduation, Steve entered the world of Sales & Marketing learning and achieving with time.
In the year 2000 when the “World Wide Web” and “Ecommerce” were in the infant stage, Steve took his expertise in insurance and started a new web site which he built up and ran successfully from his home for 15 years.
With no artistic bone in his body, with no inclination to even draw a straight line, Steve was a thinker and a problem solver. After all, if he needed a straight line, he had a ruler and a pencil to create one.
In 2016, Steve and his wife of 27 years split and eventually divorced. Sitting in his new apartment one day, he looked at the bare walls and decided he needed to buy some wall hangings to make his apartment feel like a home.
“Wait”, he thought. “I taught myself a little bit of Photoshop for my business website. I think I’ll try to make something on the computer.”
Little did Steve realize that a new birth was beginning to take place at that moment.
As Steve sat quietly at his desk and allowed his mind to open up and explore, his first piece of art, “Eye Splitt” emerged from his head and into his computer.
“Splitt” as in a marriage splitting up. “Eye”…who knows why, really. It just came out of his head. That one piece of digital work, seemingly a whim of an idea and effort, was the release valve to a non-stop explosion of unique and creative ideas that have had no bounds since that moment.
In the year 2016, a birth…the birth of El Esteban the Artist…took place.

Eyes dominate the artwork of El Esteban. No, Steve is not a frustrated optometrist wannabe who turned to art as a substitute.
There just seems to be a fascination with eyes and what eyes reveal that lies deep within the recesses of the mind of El Esteban.
And, his exploration of those recesses continues.
